World-Wide-Web Servers in the World

World-Wide-Web (also called WWW) is a hypertext-based information system. The World-Wide Web also provides access to many of the other network resource tools such as multimedia player, gopher, news, ftp, etc., and is becoming widely used as the major means of access to Internet resources.

How to access World-Wide-Web?

You must be on the international TCP/IP network (the Internet) in order to use a client or browser (e.g. Netscape) on your computer to access WWW.

World-Wide Web Client Software

Public domain clients for accessing WWW servers are available for Macintosh, MS-DOS, VMS, VM/CMS, MVS, NeXT, Unix and X-Windows. All these platforms support a simple line mode browser. In addition, graphical clients are available for Macintosh, MS-Windows, X-Windows, NeXT and Unix.

Below you will find the location of client software for WWW. This is not a complete list of available software. Most of these software are available on CUHK's anonymous ftp server (ftp.cuhk.edu.hk:/pub/www/).

WWW Information Providers in CUHK

In CUHK, there are a number of WWW information providers which contribute to the setup of WWW hypertext pages. Currently, several departments are participating in providing information through the WWW service, and we are expecting more to come. All their home pages can be found in the CUHK Homg Page.
