Wai-chi CHEE

Veronica S.W. MAK

Hua WEN (Ph.D. '10) is currently working in United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) China office as Programme Officer on Gender. "The working experience in international organizations is different from that of academia, but the way of thinking I learned from Anthropology remains the same: to be creative, to be critical!" she said. Her book, Buying Beauty: Cosmetic Surgery in China, a revision of her Ph.D. dissertation, was recently published by the Hong Kong University Press. To know more about her book, please go to Hong Kong University Press. (contact email: wenhuakm"at"gmail.com)

Ka-Kin CHEUK (BSSC '06 and M.Phil '09) is now a PhD candidate in Anthropology at the University of Oxford.
"Many people assume that PhD life is only about tedious research and endless writing. But to me it is a slightly different story. Of course, I still have to spend most of my time writing up my dissertation. But Oxford gives me chances to do some interesting chores apart from my dissertation. During 2012-2013, I am honoured to chair the Oxford Migration Studies Society, for which I am convening the society’s inaugural graduate student conference in migration studies, "Migration: Theory and Practices." For more information about the society and the conference, please go to http://www.compas.ox.ac.uk/study/migration-studies-society/."

Justin Gaurav Murgai (MA '10 and M.Phil '13). His MPhil research investigated the dreams and aspirations of undocumented South Asians in Hong Kong and the reasons why they continue to come despite knowing of the debts and difficulties that lay ahead of them. Justin presently works in a youth services organization where he implements harm reduction programmes for local and international youths in Hong Kong, and engages in community outreach for developing projects to empower young ethnic minorities in the city. Outside work, Justin is continuing his research on undocumented migrants, and hopes, in the near future, to continue his studies in Anthropology. (contact email: jgmurgai"at"gmail.com)

Gloria LEUNG Man Ki (MA '02) is a freelance market research consultant. The flexible working hours allows her to spend more time with her two small boys, 7 and 5 years old. She had majored in Geography as an undergraduate, and the MA allowed her to move into market research and marketing. She is also active in amateur theatre performances, with both front and back stage experience. (contact email: mankileung"at"gmail.com)
