Purpose: To report on the visit of World Wide Web homepage for Department of Systems Engineering, Virginia University.

The Virginia University was founded in 1819 by Thomas Jefferson. The University is composed of ten schools, while the Department of Systems Engineering being one of the ten departments under the School of Engineering and Applied Science. The establishment of the School of Engineering and Applied Science can date back to 1836 when the School of Civil Engineering was set up.

The homepage of Department of System Engineering was mainly divided into three parts: administrative information, academic information and research.

The administrative information page shows the department calendar, faculty & staff e-mail addresses and phone numbers, computing information. For the computing information part, it is subdivided into computing guide and undergraduate lab manual. As the computing facilities of their department is similar to ours, most of the lab manuals and user guide are applicable to us, too.

The academic information page contains information on seminars, structure of graduate and undergraduate programmes. Furthermore it is linked to the course information pages, in which one can find the course descriptions, class syllabus, class notes and class assignments for each course offered by the department.

The research page lists the field of specialization of the professors. Some of the papers and technical reports written by the professors can be downloaded for further reference uses.

The department of Systems Engineering is also the home of several research centres, including Center for Risk Management of Engineering Systems, Institute of Parallel Computation and Wide Area Networks Group. The research page provides links to these research centres, and more information about systems engineering can be founded.

The Website provides concise but comprehensive information on Systems Engineering. In addition knowing more about the system engineering department of other institutions can stimulate us to think more about our futures, no matter one chooses to work or further study upon graduation. Thus, it is worth to encourage the students of our department to visit this homepage.

I would be delighted if this information find useful to you or you may send e-mail to me at kennethkung@cuhk.edu.hk if you would like to have further contact.
