The Asian Father Interview Project (Hong Kong)

The CUHK Fine Arts Department proudly announces artist Hou Junming’s visiting exhibition and workshops in residence in 2016. Mr.Hou will continue his Asian Father Interview Project, which is an on-going series that combines both in-depth interviews and field studies to shed light on Asia’s LGBT communities with a special emphasize given to homosexual males. It is one of a number of guest talks that will be organized by the Art of CUHK in the year 2016 and Mr.Hou will share with us his life as an artist and the incredible experiences of healing and revealing through the works of art.

Artist Biography:

Born in Taiwan in 1963, Hou Junming is one of the most important artists in our time. A graduate from the National Arts Academy (currently National Fine Arts University Taipei), Mr.Hou was first known by his installations and woodcut prints during the 90s that seriously challenged the status quo of Taiwanese politics and social taboos at the time through his uncanny and ritualistic provocations. Mr.Hou was invited twice to attend the Venice Biennale in 1995 and 2013, respectively. In recent years, Mr.Hou has been focusing on a quest of exploring the faiths and spirits of Taiwanese cultures through both sketches and writings. The current The Asian Father Interview Project is born out of this period of a spiritual journey towards one’s innermost self. It has been going on since 2008 and has held exhibitions in Yokohama, Taipei, Taizhong, Bangkok and Jiayi, etc. His most recent work The Illustrated Body once again uses ethnographic research techniques and methodologies to transform bodily desires into artistic expressions.
