In January, the Research Institute for the Humanities (RIH) at CUHK brought together 80 scholars and researchers from 12 countries and regions, including local, China, Asia, the United States, the United Kingdom, Europe, and Africa, on the CUHK campus for the three-day 2026 Hong Kong Association for Digital Humanities (HKADH) Conference. The conference provided a platform for participants to exchange ideas and share cutting‑edge research in digital humanities.
Professor Patrick Wong, Associate Vice‑President (Research) and Stanley Ho Professor of Cognitive Neuroscience, welcomed all participants and expressed his appreciation for their efforts in fostering rich and innovative discussions, as well as cross‑cultural collaboration on the CUHK campus.
The conference programme featured three keynote talks by Professor Lauren Tilton (University of Richmond), Mr. Hsu Chia‑Wei (contemporary artist, filmmaker, and curator), and Professor Andrew Piper (McGill University). It also included three panel discussions, eight short paper presentation sessions, 15 poster presentations, and two roundtable sessions. Topics ranged from large language models (LLMs) and graph reasoning to computational literary studies, vision methods, multimodality, and agentic systems in digital humanities.
Participants also took part in an excursion to the Hong Kong Heritage Museum, extending academic exchange beyond the campus.
Heartfelt thanks to RIH for organising this remarkable conference, as well as to the co‑organising and supporting units for their valuable support. The Faculty will continue to support the development of digital humanities and contribute to the advancement of the arts and humanities in Asia and internationally.
