MA 2024-25 Information Session

• *Tuition Fee: HK$145,500 per annum (full-time); HK$72,750 per annum (part-time) 
• Applicants should apply online via the Graduate School Online Application System (starting date: September 2023), upload scanned copies of the following supporting documents to the system, AND mail the hard copies of the documents to the Division of Anthropology by the deadline.

Applications for admission to the MA Programme should include:

1. Copies of Official transcripts (with a complete record of courses attended and examination results) and grading schemes of all tertiary level studies should be submitted. Please see Graduate School Admission Documents Required for details.
2. Two confidential recommendations report (online or hard copy). Please see Graduate School Application Procedure for details.
3. Score reports or certificates as proof of English language proficiency. Please see Graduate School Admission Requirements for details. (Note: For students who graduated from a university that does not use English as the medium of instruction and need to submit English test scores, The Department prefers TOEFL (550 or above, paper-based/79 or above, Internet-based) or IELTS (academic, band 6.5 or above). TOEFL and IELTS scores are considered valid for two years from the test date.)
4. A copy of the applicant’s HKID card or other identity document.
5. Copies of certificates of academic qualifications, e.g. university certificate of graduation and degree certificate. (Note: Applicants who obtained degrees from universities in Mainland China are required to provide an Online Verification Report of Higher Education Qualification Certificate (教育部學歷證書電子註冊備案表) and a valid Online Verification Report of Higher Education Degree Certificate (中國高等教育學位在線驗證報告) issued by the CHESICC (學信網).
6. A one-page Statement of Purpose, explaining why the applicant wants to study anthropology at CUHK (See FAQ).

The programme is intended for intelligent students with university degrees and/or work experience who are eager to study anthropology.

Candidates should meet all Graduate School qualification criteria such as a bachelor’s degrees with second degree honors (lower) or better, and the English language requirements. In unusual cases, students with lower grades may be considered for the programme, but they must offer a justification in their application.

Past academic performance, work experience, references, motivation and language ability will all be considered in the admission decision.

Applications will be considered in five rounds, and we encourage students to apply early:

• Deadline of 1st round application is 30 September 2023.
• Deadline of 2nd round application is 31 October 2023.
• Deadline of 3rd round application is 30 November 2023.
• Deadline of 4th round application is 31 December 2023.
• Deadline of 5th round application is 31 January 2024.

Application results will be posted on the homepage of the Graduate School from mid-November 2023 to mid-March 2024. Successful applications, in normal case, will receive the offer letter latest by the end of May. Applicants will not be informed separately if their applications are not successful.
