Conference Fieldtrip

Engaging local voices, re-imagining urban transformation

Date: 26th January 2019 (Saturday)
Time: 1400-1600 (The coach will leave CUHK at 1315)
Venue: Sham Shui Po, Kowloon

Sham Shui Po, an old district of Hong Kong, is not only a place with affordable multi-cultural cuisines and scenic ‘old-Hong-Kong’ photography for tourists, but it is also a place filled with various opportunities for the local working class to lead lives with certain kind of ‘freedom’. The members of “community reciprocity development action”, a group based in Sham Shui Po, aims to study and understand how such resources are used and valued in the community. They will bring us on a walk around the grassroots neighbourhood to discover the various kind of ‘freedoms’ the residents in Sham Shui Po are experiencing, and the impacts of urban transformations on it.

Note: A one-way shuttle will be provided from CUHK to Cheung Sha Wan. Participants need to arrange their own transport after the field trip.
