Dr. Gabriella Angelini is an anthropologist who focuses on transnational intimacy and family dynamics in East and Southeast Asia, viewed through a feminist and postcolonial lens. Her doctoral research investigates relationships between Chinese men and White women couples in the postcolonial global city of Hong Kong, highlighting ongoing shifts in global power structures and historical continuities. She uses traditional ethnographic methods, such as participant observation and in-depth interviews, alongside innovative approaches, including critical autoethnography and digital ethnography. She is currently working on her first monograph, tentatively titled “Loving in the Shadow of Race: Chinese Men and White Women in Hong Kong.”
