If you are fascinated by archaeological fieldwork, the history of the Silk Road, or the cultural legacy of the Sui and Tang dynasties, we warmly invite you to our upcoming public lectures! We are honoured to host Professor Qi Dongfang from Sichuan University, a leading expert in Han-Tang archaeology, who will share firsthand experiences and insights from his decades of work along the Silk Road and with key Sui-Tang artifacts. Prof. Qi will personally lead a museum tour at the heritage discovery center, allowing participants to experience the splendor of the Sui and Tang dynasties firsthand.
These talks are co-organized by the Department of Anthropology, the Centre for Archaeology and Cultural Heritage Studies, and New Asia College, The Chinese University of Hong Kong.
Talk 1: “On the Archaeological Frontline”
Professor Qi Dongfang shares his fieldwork experiences, offering a unique window into the archaeological work along the Silk Road and the process of uncovering ancient civilizations.

Uncover the stories behind ten exquisite artefacts from the Sui-Tang period. This talk brings history to life, illustrating aspects of daily life, artistic achievements, and the remarkable cultural exchanges that characterized this golden age.

Professor Qi will guide participants through the exhibition “Tang Vogue Beyond the Horizons: A Golden Era of Multicultural Integration and Openness” to provide an in-depth and insightful experience of the splendid culture of the Sui and Tang dynasties.
