Welcome to the Faculty of Arts at CUHK!
We are proud to be the largest humanities faculty in Hong Kong. Beginning over 60 years ago with literary, historical and philosophical studies as our core disciplines, we now have 11 academic departments ranging from Anthropology to Translation, from Fine Arts to Music, along with an interdisciplinary Centre for China Studies. We foster a dynamic, diverse scholarly community of about 4,500 undergraduate and postgraduate students in pursuit of excellence in bilingual teaching and learning. Our more than 30,000 alumni live and work as productive members of society around the world.

We are pleased that in 2025, The U.S. News and World Report ranked CUHK as the 13th Best Global University for Arts and Humanities in the world, the very top Asian university in this category. This result continues a steady upward trajectory in recent years in the ranking agency's assessment of humanities education and research at CUHK.
As humanities scholars, we seek to contribute new ideas, narratives, and knowledge in response to societal needs and changing times. Our best research is always impactful as it breaks new ground and makes bold, imaginative connections. One area we will focus on, for instance, is the impact of AI and its implications for not only humanities scholarship but human society at large.
As educators, we are committed to nurturing creative and rigorous learners with a humanistic sensibility and a global vision. We encourage our students to broaden their intellectual horizon and to acquire new languages and skills. We prepare them for many exciting career options and opportunities in the future.
A humanities education is indispensable, I believe, to a meaningful appreciation of the richness of human history and to the imagination of a shared and desirable future. This foundational education equips us to better tackle complex and challenging issues we face in today's world, from climate change to geopolitical shifts.
As Dean, I am guided by our Faculty's collective goals and aspirations. My role is to lead and coordinate our efforts in the direction that we have set together. I invite all of you to join us in our endeavour to make our Faculty ever more Global, Innovative, and Inspirational.
