The Faculty of Arts at the Chinese University of Hong Kong warmly congratulates Dr Wu Yinran of the Department of Translation on being awarded the Vice Chancellor’s Exemplary Teaching Award 2024. Dr Wu is dedicated to integrating humanistic values into technology-based courses, demonstrating her outstanding contribution to quality education.
Dr Wu expressed her gratitude for the University’s recognition and support for teaching, “I am thankful for CUHK’s humanistic environment, as well as the genuine and supportive bonds among colleagues and students, which have sustained my growth on my teaching journey.”
Reflecting on the honour, Dr Wu emphasised the importance of humanistic values, “Teaching translation is a joyful pursuit, as it inspires students’ curiosity about the world and enables them to reflect on their own lives through the lens of another culture. In my computer-aided translation courses, the exploration of innovative digital tools has also given my students and me a fresh lens to re-examine the human vibrancy in translation—the translator’s choice, the craft of team collaboration, and the path of dialogue that connects communities across space and culture.
I believe experimentation with technologies can augment students’ potential and shape their evolving sense of agency in human-AI collaboration, and this lends meaning to a tech-integrated education.”
Once again, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to Dr Wu on this well-deserved honour. The Faculty will continue to fully support our teachers in advancing quality education and work together to build a vibrant academic community that responds proactively to a rapidly changing, technology-driven era.
