The Faculty of Arts at CUHK successfully hosted its first Interdisciplinary Taught Postgraduate (TPg) Student Conference on 13 May 2025. This inaugural event brought together over 60 postgraduate students from a range of disciplines to share their research and perspectives on the theme “Human Experience in the Contemporary World.”
Professor Jette Hansen Edwards, Associate Dean (Education), opened the conference by welcoming participants and encouraging them to embrace opportunities for intellectual exchange and academic growth. She also expressed her hope for even broader participation in future conferences.
Professor Pang Lai-kwan, Chairperson of the Department of Cultural and Religious Studies, delivered the keynote address and introduced the world’s first undergraduate programme in Public Humanities, launching at CUHK in the 2025–26 academic year. She highlighted the programme’s goal of connecting humanities education with the wider community and enriching public life through critical thinking and cultural engagement.
The conference featured nine thematic sessions with 39 oral presentations and two poster sessions, covering a diverse range of topics from language and arts to gender and community studies. Attendees actively participated in discussions and lively exchanges during both the presentations and the display of 15 research posters, demonstrating the depth, creativity, and breadth of scholarship within CUHK Arts.
Congratulations to all participating students on their outstanding presentations, and sincere thanks to our faculty members for their invaluable support. The Faculty of Arts remains committed to providing opportunities for emerging scholars to share their research, engage in interdisciplinary dialogue, and enhance CUHK’s vibrant academic community. We look forward to organising more events that promote research excellence and inspire future generations of scholars.
