About:

‘Jockey Club “Handmade Wellbeing” Youth Craft Education Programme’ is a 3-year project funded by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, and in collaboration with the other two co-presenters namely Design and Cultural Studies Workshop as well as Chief Executive’s Award for Teaching Excellence Teachers’ Association. It focuses on the inheritance of traditional craft and culture in local secondary school and to promote the using of handmade functional wares in the society as a whole.

Through learning-by-doing and cross-disciplinary learning experience, students will be able to develop their craft making (woodwork and ceramics) techniques and creative entrepreneurship. These comprehensive skills will open up alternative routes for students into career development in craft business. Handcraft exhibition and fair will be organized to arouse public awareness on craft and the creative economy.
The project also empowers students to use their own hands and creativity to make contribution to the society. Through visits and interactions with communities in need such as the elderly, patients and people with different abilities, students will understand the needs of diverse communities, and will design and create wooden and ceramics wares to benefit various community members in the society.
The project will premier its video on 5 April, 2021 to kick-off the “Handmade Wellbeing” programme.
