“Multiple-layered wooden goblets from the “Western Ocean” under a global context and the cross-cultural Qing court” (In Mandarin)

Abstract:
There are two purposes of this essay. First, it aims to promote the cross-interdisciplinary dialogue by analyzing the case study of wooden goblets from the “Western Ocean”. Second, it tries to detect Qianlong emperor’s attitude towards objects from the “Western Ocean” and the thoughts behind through the understandings of several contexts of accommodating the wooden goblets in the Qing court.
The wooden goblets from Nuremburg traveled extensively from Europe to China. They not only convey the fruitful messages of Global history, but also attended the constructions of visual culture and knowledge system in a wide range of regions. Their displays in contemporary museums correspond to the concept of how they are viewed and interpreted commonly or differently in different museums by curators. The distribution of wooden goblets in the Early Modern period also received common or different interpretations in different regions. Through the strong mobility, they shorten the distance between China and Europe and thread together the various stories between people and objects.
