Admission Information

Requirements

  • Graduated from a recognized university and obtained a Bachelor’s degree, normally with honours not lower than Second Class; or
  • Graduated from an honours programme of a recognized university with a Bachelor’s degree, normally achieving an average grade of not lower than “B”; or
  • Completed a course of study in a tertiary education institution and obtained professional or similar qualifications equivalent to an honours degree; and
  • English Language Proficiency Requirement (please refer to the link http://www.gs.cuhk.edu.hk/page/EntryRequirements for details)
  • Applicants are required to submit a Personal Statement in Chinese.
  • Non-local & non-Chinese speaking applicants should have majored or taken courses in Chinese Language, Chinese Literature or related fields.
  • If deemed necessary, the programme may invite applicants to attend an interview.

Study Mode

Full-time: 1 year normative study period (2 terms for 1 year; maximum study period : 6 terms)
Part-time: 2 years normative study period (4 terms for 2 years; maximum study period : 8 terms)
Students need to take 24 credits (8 subjects)

There are approximately 12-14 weeks in each semester. The lessons will be held mainly at night in weekdays and on Saturday. The medium of instruction will be mostly in Putonghua, to be supplemented with English and/or Cantonese.

After submitting an online application, applicants upload the following documents to the Graduate School (https://www.gradsch.cuhk.edu.hk/onlineapp/faculty_list.aspx):

  1. Copies of transcripts (with grading scheme)
  2. Copies of degree certificates
  3. Copies of Online Verification Report of Higher Education Qualification Certificate issued by the CHESICC*
  4. Documents showing the applicant has fulfilled the Graduate School’s English Language Proficiency Requirement
  5. Copies of identity card or passport
  6. Personal Statement (in Chinese)

*Applicants who obtained degrees from universities in Mainland China are required to provide an Online Verification Report of Higher Education Qualification Certificate (教育部學歷證書電子註冊備案表) issued by the CHESICC (學信網) together with other supporting documents. Please refer to the official website of the CHESICC on the sample of the Online Verification Report of Higher Education Qualification Certificate at https://www.chsi.com.cn/xlcx/bgys.jsp.

The following official documents should be sent directly by the University, the English examination Orgranization and the referres to the General Office of the Department of Cultural and Religious Studies before the application deadline. Tuition Fee (2022-2023)

Full-time : HK$118,000 (1 year, 2 installments for full-time students)
Part-time : HK$59,000 (2 years, 4 installments for part-time students)

Additional tuition fee (HKD$14,751) will be charged for each course taken after the normative study period. (Pending for approval.)
